Trends and Patterns of Job Quality in the United States

The landscape of job quality in the United States has shifted significantly over the past two decades. While real wages have risen, the benefits that make jobs truly sustainable, like employer-sponsored healthcare and retirement plans, have not kept pace. This study highlights how these changes have impacted different demographic groups, with the highest job quality declining for White and Black non-Hispanic workers but increasing for Hispanic workers. Additionally, wage growth has been disproportionately skewed toward the top earners, raising important questions about economic equity and workforce sustainability.
