Household Food Security in the United States in 2023

Since 1995, the USDA has gathered yearly data on food access, spending, and assistance sources across the U.S. This effort, led through the Food Security Supplement (FSS) in the Current Population Survey, offers insights into the nation’s food insecurity levels. The 2023 report provides updated national statistics, including the extent and severity of food insecurity and food assistance use. This monitoring helps inform and improve Federal, state, and community programs aimed at reducing food hardship across households.
