The Digital Dollar Project

The Digital Dollar Project’s inaugural 2020 white paper urged the United States to accelerate the consideration of a digital dollar through real-world experimentation and proposed a “champion model” of a digital dollar for public consideration.

In this 2023 paper, we revisit our champion model and encourage the United States to continue research into the benefits and challenges of Central bank digital currency. Furthermore, given developments over the past few years, we have an even stronger conviction that the United States has an important role to play in setting international standards for digital currencies, particularly as other major economies are already beginning to exert leadership in setting global standards.
