Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates: 2023

The Census Bureau’s 2025 release of Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) presents county- and school district-level income and poverty data for 2023. Median household income across U.S. counties ranged from $28,579 to $173,655, with most showing no significant year-to-year change. Poverty rates spanned 3.3% to 49.6%, while the median school-age child poverty rate was 13.4%, concentrated in larger districts. These figures guide Title I funding and reveal how local economic well-being varies nationwide.
