Retaining Persons with Disabilities in the Federal Workforce

Federal agencies have made strides in hiring persons with disabilities (PWD), but keeping them in the workforce remains a challenge. This EEOC report digs into the data to find out which practices actually help improve retention. The analysis revealed that agencies with strong procedures for reasonable accommodations (RA) and personal assistance services (PAS)—especially when those procedures are visible and compliant—had better PWD retention. These practical steps point to a path forward for creating a more inclusive and supportive federal workforce.
