Executive Order 14331: Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans

This executive order takes aim at “politicized or unlawful debanking,” where financial institutions restrict services based on political or religious beliefs, or lawful business activities they disfavor. It directs federal banking regulators and the SBA to remove biased risk considerations, review past practices, and reinstate wrongfully denied clients. The order also calls for penalties against institutions that engage in discriminatory banking and for coordination with the Attorney General in cases involving religious discrimination. The overarching goal: ensure access to financial services is based solely on objective, risk-based standards—not ideology.
