Roundtable 3: Government as a Buyer of AI

As AI technologies advance, federal agencies face mounting challenges in responsibly procuring and managing AI tools. Roundtable participants emphasized the need for flexible governance, clearer risk management practices, and stronger transparency with both vendors and the public. Discussions highlighted that while AI offers tremendous opportunity, agencies must ensure careful evaluation before acquisition and remain accountable for how AI systems impact public services. Building adaptable procurement strategies now will be critical to balancing innovation and risk in the years ahead.
