Trends in Veteran Disability Status and Service-Connected Disability: 2008–2022

The prevalence of service-connected disabilities among veterans has nearly doubled since 2008, rising from 15% to almost 30% in 2022. Younger veterans, particularly those from the post-9/11 era, are increasingly reporting higher rates of cognitive and physical disabilities. These trends highlight the growing need for tailored support and resources to address the long-term impacts of military service. As the veteran population evolves, understanding these shifts is critical for effective public policy and care.
