This paper examines how the U.S. Army’s long-standing value framework must evolve to meet the moral, ethical, and operational demands of modern conflict. It argues that today’s leaders operate in increasingly complex and visible environments—ranging from cyberspace to proxy warfare—where clarity, adaptability, and ethical judgment matter as much as technical skill. By proposing a modernized values framework focused on leadership in action, the paper connects character, decision-making, and readiness to the realities of today’s battlefield.
