The Cost of Cyber Defense

The Center for Internet Security (CIS) advocates that all enterprises start with Safeguards from Implementation Group 1 (IG1) of the CIS Controls. These Safeguards are a set of protections that are often sufficient for a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) that does not face sophisticated attackers.

These Safeguards are also the required foundation for implementing more expensive and complex protections that are found in the two higher Implementation Groups (IG2 and IG3), which are often applied to protect larger enterprises or more sensitive data and services.
