The Case for Multiparty Presidentialism in the U.S.

The intense partisan polarization and hatred in the U.S., alongside the growing willingness of many politicians and voters to support authoritarian practices, have generated deep concern about democracy in the U.S.

In this paper, it is argued that multipartism would likely attenuate these serious challenges to our democracy and that a system of proportional representation for the House of Representatives would likely generate moderate multipartism, with several beneficial effects for U.S. democracy.
