Test Plans, Results, and Lessons Learned About Open RAN Integration During the NTIA 5G Challenges

The NTIA’s 5G Challenges pushed the limits of next-generation wireless by testing how different vendors’ equipment could work together in real-world scenarios. Hosted with the Department of Defense and CableLabs, the program focused on breaking down closed networks to promote open, flexible, and secure 5G systems. Over two years, teams achieved key milestones, including successful handoffs between multi-vendor systems and valuable lessons in configuration, collaboration, and best practices. These insights are helping to shape a more innovative and resilient wireless ecosystem for future networks.
