Sex Codes “M” or “F” in Systems

A recent executive order is changing how air carriers report traveler information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Starting July 14, 2025, carriers must ensure that only “M” or “F” sex markers are submitted in passenger data, aligning with Executive Order 14168 and CBP’s updated guidance. While a 90-day compliance period offers time to adjust, submissions with other values will eventually trigger resubmission requirements. The new policy reasserts strict adherence to binary sex classification in federal systems, raising operational and policy questions for international travel.
