Restoring Fires and Maneuver

An All-Arms Wave-Based Approach at the Tactical Edge

Modern battlefields characterized by persistent surveillance and precision fires have degraded traditional maneuver warfare, leading to attritional and positional conflicts. This paper proposes a wave-based, all-arms approach to restore synchronized fires and maneuver at the tactical level. It examines how layered suppression, protection, and maneuver across echelons can enable tempo, survivability, and decisive operations. Drawing on historical armored warfare and current conflicts, the authors recommend doctrinal, organizational, and training changes to enable divisions to operate effectively on transparent battlefields and regain operational initiative.
