Removing Unnecessary and Counterproductive Restrictions on Access to Federal Lands

Executive Order 14408 rescinds Executive Orders 11644 and 11989, removing long-standing federal restrictions governing off-road vehicle use on public lands. The order directs federal agencies to revise or eliminate regulations based on the rescinded orders and replace them with a framework grounded in existing statutory authorities. The Administration states that the action will improve public access to federal lands, streamline land management, reduce permitting delays, support energy and timber production, and expand recreational opportunities while continuing to operate under environmental laws such as the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act.
