Recommendations for Increasing U.S. Participation and Leadership in Standards Development

Standards development is a priority for technological security among the United States, like-minded nations, foreign adversaries, and competitors. Standards promote interoperability across vendor offerings and set boundaries on features that can be offered. For this reason, U.S. participation in standards development is critical to maintaining the U.S.’s robust position in the marketplace. While standards development is primarily an economics-driven activity, national security equities are also reflected in the standards development process.
