Quantum Computing

Leadership Needed to Coordinate Cyber Threat Mitigation Strategy

Quantum computers have the potential to revolutionize science and industry—but they also pose a serious threat to the cryptographic systems that protect our nation’s sensitive data. This GAO testimony highlights how a coordinated federal strategy is urgently needed to address this looming cyber risk. While efforts are underway to transition federal systems to post-quantum cryptography, gaps in leadership, planning, and performance measures leave critical infrastructure vulnerable. The Office of the National Cyber Director is well-positioned to lead the way, but clear guidance and full implementation are still pending.
