In government, personally identifiable information, or PII, is everywhere, and it’s highly regulated. Organizations need to track and protect that information, while also complying with various mandates around data retention and data availability. Yet with PII so widely dispersed – on laptops, in email and scattered throughout IT systems – technology leaders face a difficult task.
This report examines the difficulties associated with gaining control of personally identifiable information (PII), as well as how the concept of treating data as a strategic asset can strengthen PII compliance.
