Latent Print Search Accuracy Against Rolled, Plain, and Contactless Known Prints

Law enforcement agencies collect ten rolled and ten flat fingerprint impressions from all arrested individuals. However, some agencies are now allowing background check applicants or other non-arrest purposes to submit only flat impressions. An increasing number of agencies are contemplating the exclusive use of flat impressions or contactless devices for applicant submissions. This raises a critical question: how will this shift impact the accuracy of latent print searches? This white paper will present findings from recent research examining the accuracy of latent prints compared to these various types of known prints.
