Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence

Executive Order 14434 establishes a new federal terminology policy for artificial intelligence, directing executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory executive branch materials.

For purposes of implementing the order, “Super Intelligence” and “SI” initially encompass the same technologies and systems covered by the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence in 15 U.S.C. § 9401(3). The order also directs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology to develop proposed legislative language for a new federal definition of Super Intelligence within 60 days. That proposal is to assess whether the new definition should modify or supersede the existing statutory AI definition, identify any needed conforming statutory amendments, and recommend further executive actions.
