How Chinese Online Marketplaces Fuel Counterfeits

Chinese e-commerce platforms like Temu, AliExpress, and SHEIN are facilitating the sale of counterfeit goods that threaten U.S. consumers, brands, and intellectual property. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) purchased dozens of products across categories like cosmetics, apparel, toys, and household items, finding nearly half to be counterfeit or suspicious. Enforcement by U.S. Customs was inconsistent, with many items passing through unchecked. The report calls for stronger policies and platform accountability to curb these risks.
