Executive Order 14422: Honoring the American History of the Great Lakes and Renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America

Executive Order 14422 directs the Federal Government to officially rename Lake Ontario as “Lake America,” citing the lake’s historical, economic, strategic, and cultural importance to the United States. The order highlights its role in American exploration, commerce, defense, energy production, manufacturing, agriculture, shipping, and regional economic development.

The order directs the Secretary of the Interior and the Board on Geographic Names to implement the change within 30 days, update the Geographic Names Information System, and establish guidance requiring Federal maps, contracts, documents, and communications to use the new name.
