Executive Order 14412: Securing the Nation Against Advanced Cryptographic Attacks

Executive Order 14412 establishes a government-wide strategy to protect Federal systems, critical infrastructure, and sensitive data from emerging quantum computing threats. The order accelerates the transition to NIST-approved post-quantum cryptography, establishes migration deadlines for high-value and high-impact Federal systems, and directs agencies to develop coordinated implementation plans.

The order also addresses critical infrastructure, National Security Systems, Federal procurement, cryptographic standards, contractor requirements, and international cooperation. It establishes specific deadlines through 2031 designed to ensure Federal agencies and contractors transition away from cryptographic technologies that could become vulnerable to advanced quantum attacks.
