Fleets of any type—ships, aircraft, trucks, and others—create certain logistical issues. They are constantly in use all over the world, operating in inclement weather and contested environments. They are continually repaired away from their base of operations, and the configuration of each vehicle in the fleet is different, leading to difficulty in understanding what can be repaired or replaced. The more complex the fleet, the more stubborn those issues become and the more costly the resources required for support. The fleet needs to be maintained and upgraded on a regular basis and sometimes in emergency situations.
