Digital modernization in the public sector comes with many challenges, including constrained, often uncertain budgets; mission‐critical can’t‐fail legacy systems; and the onslaught of new technologies. Where to invest to accelerate improvement and mitigate security and other risks?
As with any significant enterprise initiative, top‐level support and shared direction is essential to achieve results. In the IT arena, we’ve seen a long‐standing focus on the need for collaboration between the agency CIO and CFO. This still continues to be both challenge and imperative. Decades of implementation history concretely affirms the importance of this alliance. Meanwhile, we have seen a burgeoning of the number of CXO roles whose aligned leadership determines success for enterprise‐ level transformations.
