Digital Twin Lab

Supporting Research and Development for Standards and Implementations

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has launched a Digital Twin Lab to accelerate innovation in U.S. manufacturing. This lab serves as a testbed for developing standards, prototyping systems, and evaluating enabling technologies like IIoT, robotics, and simulation tools. By demonstrating use cases and fostering collaboration, the lab helps industry stakeholders explore digital twin applications that improve efficiency, quality, and integration across manufacturing. Future efforts will expand data availability, strengthen standards like ISO 23247 and MTConnect, and advance research into real-time digital twins, AR/VR interfaces, and automated workflows.
