National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) scores indicate that students who struggle do not experience the same growth in mathematics performance as higher-achieving students. In 2019, students at the 10th percentile showed significantly worse performance than a decade ago while the highest performing students demonstrated significant growth. The growth of students at the 25th percentile remained stagnant. These data suggest that students with difficulties learning mathematics are falling even further behind their peers.
