A Primer on Cislunar Space

This primer aims to familiarize the reader with “cislunar4 space.” It is targeted at military space professionals who will answer the call to develop plans, capabilities, expertise, and operational concepts. Cislunar space has recently become prominent in the space community and warrants attention, as reflected in the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the United States Space Force states.

This MOU reflects the increasing importance of cislunar space, as articulated in national level guidance, including the National Space Council’s A New Era for Deep Space Exploration and Development, the Future of Space 2060 & Implications for U.S. Strategy, State of the Space Industrial Base 2020, and Spacepower: Doctrine for Space Forces.
