The development of hypersonic weapons would result in projectiles traveling at speeds greater than 3,800 miles per hour, making them nearly impossible to intercept. Hypersonic technology developments have far-reaching effects on defense, transportation, and space programs. Building both offensive and defensive hypersonic capabilities is, and will continue to be, a top priority for scientific inquiry.
