Geoengineering is a field of study that entails large scale technological interventions to maniplate processes that affect the Earth’s climate, generally with the goal of mitigating climate change. Congress is becomming more interested in and supportive of geoengineering techniques for removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. Geoengineering techniques that boost or speed up natural processes that remove CO2 from the atmosphere (like afforestation and fertizing the ocean) may be of particular interest to Congress because they are cheaper to research, develop, and use than geoengineering technique that use new or industiral-scale technologies.
