Autonomy in Weapon Systems

This Defense Department directive establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for developing and deploying autonomous and semiautonomous functions in weapon systems, including armed platforms that are remotely operated or operated by onboard personnel.

This report also provides guidance on reducing the likelihood and consequences of failures in autonomous and semi-autonomous weapon systems that could result in unintended engagements.
