Rail Labor Dispute Could Result in Work Stoppages

On August 16, 2022, a three-person emergency board that President Biden appointed released its recommendations to end a labor dispute involving over 100,000 workers from six major railroads and many smaller ones. On September 15, the two sides reached a tentative agreement that still needs approval by the union’s members to prevent a strike. Work stoppages could result as early as November 19, depending on the actions that the railroads, unions, and Congress take.
